Evergreen Update!
Since the 6th April 2026 NHS Supply Chain now require all suppliers submitting tenders to have achieved their Evergreen Level 1.
First announced in 2023, Evergreen Level 1 represents the essential baseline sustainability standards expected by the NHS, suppliers must:
• Demonstrate a commitment to achieving net zero by 2050
• Publish a PPN006 compliant Carbon Reduction Plan
• Report UK Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions.
From 2027 suppliers will also need
• Publicly report emissions targets
• Publish a globally scoped Carbon Reduction Plan covering all Scope 1–3 emissions
Sustainability initiatives that have been years in development are now reaching implementation — and a procurement-led approach could be one of the most powerful levers for embedding real change across the NHS.
